Parasitism reduces oxidative stress of fish host experimentally exposed to PAHs

چکیده
Some parasites are known to bioaccumulate some environmental pollutants within their host. We hypothesized that these may be beneficial for hosts in polluted environments. experimentally increased long-term (five weeks) exposure polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs, three levels: 0.1X, 1X, 10X exposure) European chubs (Squalius cephalus) were naturally infected or uninfected with acanthocephalan parasites. monitored PAHs levels fish tissues, as well oxidative stress, telomere length and condition indices. Although parasite infection did not significantly reduce the of PAH metabolites host status was explained by parasitism pollution levels. Oxidative damage exposed low (0.1X) but decreased at higher (10X), thus corroborating our hypothesis. Meanwhile, antioxidant capacity differ response nor exposure. Despite this imbalance status, experimental increase compromise length, body condition, survival fish. This study provides first evidence outcome host-parasite interactions can shift from negative positive pollutant increases.

Chinese green tea consumption reduces oxidative stress, inflammation and tissues damage in smoke exposed rats
Objective(s):One cause of cigarette smoking is oxidative stress that may alter the cellular antioxidant defense system, induce apoptosis in lung tissue, inflammation and damage in liver, lung, and kidney. It has been shown that Chinese green tea (CGT) (Lung Chen Tea) has higher antioxidant property than black tea. In this paper, we will explore the preventive effect of CGT on cigarette smoke-in...
متن کاملMelatonin reduces oxidative stress and cardiovascular changes induced by stanozolol in rats exposed to swimming exercise.
OBJECTIVE Anabolic-androgenic steroids (AAS) are nominated for clinical use to promote protein synthesis in many therapeutic conditions. However, the indiscriminate use of AAS is related to hazardous cardiac disturbances and oxidative stress. We designed a study to investigate whether prolonged treatment with high doses of stanozolol modifies the activities of some antioxidant enzymes in the he...
متن کاملResveratrol Reduces Oxidative Stress and Improves Arsenic Efflux in Rats Exposed To Arsenic Trioxide
Received: Revised: Accepted: May 29, 2013 September 15, 2013 September 18, 2013 The effects of resveratrol on arsenic trioxide-induced oxidative stress and arsenic efflux in spleen were determined in Wistar rats exposed to arsenic trioxide (As2O3). Wistar rats were segregated into four groups: control (0.9% normal saline), As2O3treated (2 mg/kg for 7 days, i.p.), resveratrol+As2O3-treated, resv...
متن کاملOxidative stress biomarkers and aggressive behavior in fish exposed to aquatic cadmium contamination
The objective of this study was to investigate the possible link between cadmium exposure, hepatic markers of oxidative stress and aggressive behavior in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). Fish were first exposed to 0.75 mg/L CdCl2 for 15 days (12 isolated fish for each group) and afterward a behavioral test was performed. Fish from the control and cadmium-exposed groups were paired for 1 h ...
